The Residents Atlanta Concert reviews
Disappointing for the Casual Fan
"Our seats were great - aisle on the field, and the weather was perfect. I attended with my brother (4th time) and friends (3rd time) to see The Residents for the first time. He started at 8:30, and by 10, I was wondering when he was going to play some hits. They are serious musicians and not a greatest hits band, but I would have really liked some hits interspersed between the many slow songs I had never heard before. They did play Thunder Road, Born to Run, and Dancing in the Dark during the encore, but overall it was more unusual Irish music, recent songs, and covers (Blinded by the Light, and Twist and Shout) than the songs a casual fan like myself know and love. I knew that they are very talented musicians and gave a lot of energy in the 3 1/2 hour show, but I would have enjoyed it much more if they played some more of their hits. My brother felt it was the least danceable show he had attended, but many around us seemed to be having a great time. It never happened. He assured me he was back-loading for the second half of the show. I do not plan to see them again."
